Why we meet over food
There are times when I lament the growth of my waistline but my buddies seems to like to meet over food. It's like the way we bond.
04.01.2011
Happy Birthday Ris (again). Thanks for the
treat, didn't know what to give you so spend that ang pow wisely okay~ You know your friends had a weird sense of humor when they know you're lactose-intolerant and still insist having pizza for dinner.
05.01.2011
Brought Mum to see the doctor. Since we are around Bugis area, I had an impromptu meet up with Ms Duh since God knows when(Sorry Siwon~ Oh.. and Ms Duh also). The weather's nice and chilly with spring rain to reckon a go at
I look at recipes while we were wait for the steamboat ingredients to come. Had such a hearty meal that we almost had to wade out of our seats.

Meeting with the
SP Gang! Wow it's been how long? Obviously this meet-up is requested by Dajie. She went Korea for work (I think) and got us gifts~ How can we not order my favorite 小笼汤包 at 鼎泰丰?Then chat over food and coffee thereafter at Starbucks (Cindy, who else.)
13.01.2011
Yupps. Must be the weather for everyone to come up with steamboat. Teresa couldn't make it because she's preparing for her wedding (OMG) so Jeylne, Natalie and I had fun at this
steamboat outlet in Novena. Reminisce about the time where we're young and free of worldly happenings, then had a bitch fest about working life in general. The spicy soup base provide us with the fire we need to continue talking about that irate part of our lives for two hours. Well, at least we know we don't have to organise the next primary school meet-up. It will be at Teresa's wedding.

Crazy for SS3

Obligations tied me to the spot but my heart was already there. It doesn't help that the live updates (on fb) were showing signs of this being the longest queue in the century by the time I could get my butt down.
Null emotions. Really. 19 November passed in a blur, and all I can really remember was eating dinner with the two A's (Adrian and Andrew) after dropping the other heavy stuff at his place and borrowed Drew's ipod touch "Just in case."
7:53PM. A discouragingly late time. Imagine the broadcasts (fb) had been going on about how there's already a group of 50+ people lining up by around 4pm+; plus if you tentatively calculate that everyone in the queue is buying the max amount of tickets (4) that would've been a 200+ tickets off ballot. Which is entirely possible due to the fact that the ones in the front are mostly lining up for the fan club. What about the online ticketing going on live at the same time? Fans love playing fastest finger first I tell you.
I mean really, who else can make me line-up overnight? Realise this is almost a once in a lifetime thing and since 2005 I've been wanting to see them. How can I not go!?!
My darling handphone, I could almost kill. You drained so quickly even though I charged you the previous night. Too bad I didn't bring the charger to work. And what's with the malfunctioning screen suddenly? You do know you're a touch-screen phone, right? How am I going to call people? Can press number can sms but cannot send. What use has that got? You almost did me in you know, because I need that Singtel logo on your front page and you almost ran dry.
All the technology must be against me. Even Drew's ipod touch is fail. Cannot connect to the wireless even though Mister Mc Donald is just a few steps away while other people all around me happily connect. (Both physically and technologically. I must be a freak.)
The pink tag every one in line have~

Sect A last row. A place where everyone go pass to go toilet. A spot where we are nearest to the road and quite possibly one of the few to be able to get good seats. There I look at the large pane of glass hanging above me and see all kinds of positioning. How many more hours to go as random people caught my eye and we nodded at each other in acknowledgement.
Section A
Boring me taking photo of me and the "Section A" paper *fails*
People and their random positions

With the rumblings (of my stomach and the crowd stirring) around, my mind refocus, the girls beside me kindly offered to get breakfast for me but I decline. I asked for the time. It's 6:50am. They went to line up for Mister Mac D while I look after their belongings. Nods of acknowledgements all around as people walk pass our row, in and out, in and out they go. I search my bag and almost hit myself when I realise I left my biscuits at Andrew's place. (Andrew, I hope you love them...) So I just close my eyes after the girls return and zoned out... I mean reach a Zen state of mind. Around me, camera flashes and reporters started approaching the people in the queue and the girls (my row) seems to panic because we are so close to the media but we don't want to get caught on papers. I continue to "Zen" with my head down, ear piece in place even though my batteries had ran out after the girls woke.
The guys with the water tanks are back and roaming around to give us much needed hydration (though I'm not sure about what the content of sugar in the F&N, Sarsi and Ice-cream Soda will do to the crowd later.)
Finally it's 10am. All were told to get up and start packing to move into line. (I was a little mortified by the amount of garbage around and disappointed by people not cleaning up after themselves.) One of the girls had low blood pressure and with worried laden hearts we move slowly.
All the while, fans around us connect online to check the ticket sales and many lamented about site showing "sold out". We got more and more agitated as we move down the queue.
From RITS: The moving queue, with elves checking online. Can you spot me in the picture?

In our little elves group, I am the only one buying only 2 tickets. When one of the girls' friend called to ask if there are available tickets (they were camping online to get the tickets, however I think Sistics shut down that connection and let the people who queue up overnight get it first... So they have to come down instead.) I suggest that they use my remaining quota to buy.

Cin's Crypt Again
It's that time of the year, but I was surprised that we had it such ad-hoc-ly (omg is this even a word!?!) yesterday.
Went to the market early yesterday and got all the ingredients for my side of the food preparation, plus I need to smuggle out that little something I made specially for the group. Hope they like it. Photos will obviously be up but here's a sneak preview~

Now let me emo for a while.... Why I had to do Cesar Salad!?! So many ingredient and weird techniques I never try before... *pouts* So, I'll show you the recipe...
1/2 to 3/4 cup homemade croutons (see directions below)
1 coddled egg (see directions below)*
1 to 2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic (1 to 2 medium cloves with inner green germ removed)
1 anchovy fillet, mashed**
Pinch of coarse salt 2 tablespoons (1/2 lemon) freshly squeezed lemon juice***
3 drops Worcestershire sauce
6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) freshly grated Parmesan cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano),divided
1 head Romaine lettuce, hearts and tender leaves only
Coarsely ground black pepper
How to make croutons:Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Trim the crust from day-old peasant-style bread (Italian or French bread) and dice into 3/4-inch cubes. Toss with enough olive oil to coat, but not drench. Sprinkle lightly with salt and spread out on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake approximately 10 to 15 minutes or until just golden brown. Halfway through the baking time, give the pan a shake to make sure the croutons toast evenly. Remove from oven and completely cool croutons. Store in an airtight container.
How to coddle eggs:Coddling causes the yolk to become slightly thickened and warm. Bring a very fresh egg to room temperature by immersing it in warm water (otherwise it might crack when coddled). Place the egg in a small bowl or mug and pour boiling water around the egg until it is covered. Let stand for exactly 1 minute. Immediately run cold water into the bowl until the egg can be easily handled; set aside.
How to make Caesar Salad dressing:In a bowl, whisk together the garlic, anchovy, and salt until blended. Whisk in the lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk in the coddled egg until the mixture is thick, approximately 1 minute (this enable the lemon juice to "cook" the eggs). Slowly drizzle in the olive oil with one hand while vigorously whisking the mixture with the other. When the dressing is well combined, whisk in 2 tablespoons of the Parmesan cheese.
How to assemble Caesar Salad:Separate the Romaine leaves and discard the coarse outer leaves. Wash, drain, and pat with paper towels or spin dry the remaining leaves. Note: Lettuce should be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to use. Tear into bite-size pieces and set aside.
In a large wooden salad bowl, add 1/3 of the dressing and toss with the croutons until well coated. Add the Romaine lettuce pieces and the remaining dressing; toss until coated.
How to serve Caesar Salad:Divide the salad between chilled plates and sprinkle each salad with the remaining 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese and coarsely ground pepper.
Serve immediately with chilled forks.

After note:
So I didn't exactly follow the recipe.
For croutons, I used garlic bread toasted dry. Then, I substitute mayonnaise with plain sugar free yogurt because someone don't eat mayonnaise. I add additional Worcestershire sauce (1/2 teaspoon more) and another slice of lemon just in case.
My rendition of this salad is also without anchovies. Even though I did the coddled egg thing (which was a little fail because we end up with half of the egg whites in it too) we still lack the 'meat' flavor. So what I did was toss in lots of cheese.
Also, I let people decide between the croutons or the barbecue crisp I brought along. Overall, it wasn't a fail, but it is not something I will attempt again.
The procession of the barbecue was interesting as I switch between the chores of managing fire, sorting out food and ultimately ended up whipping some mango chicken, drunken bbq prawns, cheesy beef slabs and other impromptu dishes.
The vibe wasn't as good as I hope for and we had a few incidents but overall, the gathering ended without mishap. (Sort of.)
I have to thank Andrew for specially coming over to drive me home. If not, I would've throw a tantrum. Definitely.

25. Isn't it an age where you become responsible and mature and street-wise and adventurous and strive for success?
I feel like I'm moving backwards, which is kind of scary. Because I didn't think I've put the seat belts on. There are times when I just; you know, see this immature selfish brat when I look at the mirror and I hate it.
I need to throw that mirror away...

The Will
Everyone around me seems to have a problem or another. Relations, studies, work... Why don't it all go away? Not motivated at all recently... It's like we're suffering from a depression; everyone seems to be wanting to change their jobs. When will we have the will to fight this depression?

Expanding Social Network
Entertained this morning... Good and bad. I was feeling down these few days but I need to feel better and I felt some other people need to too.
Two nights ago I felt suicidal. We had a couple of high-rise buildings to choose from... but suicide is for losers and my insurance doesn't cover it. I've been working at it; seeing all those wonderful works appearing from all over the world and wondering what it'll be like to be one of that. Then my current BOSS just have to burst my tiny bubble.
I stopped drawing leisurely after I lost whatever that cause me to like drawing after secondary school... that's 10 years ago. It brings a bitter smile to my face when I realised the one who encouraged me to start again is now no longer by my side.
Arvin, I missed you.
Picked up the sketch-pad again recently cause
I dreamt of you. I have to continue... Because it's you.

Soshidreams' Closing
*Extracted from http://soshidreams.com/2010/06/soshidreams-closed/*
By Admin on June 12th, 2010
I’ve actually written and rewritten the below over a dozen times tonight but every time the wording just didn’t seem right…so what the heck, my apologies in advance if the words seem harsh, quite frankly I no longer care enough to make things sounds nice…
Earlier today I told my staff to simply rip down the entire site without so much as an explanation but, as usual, they didn’t listen. They urged me to calm down and at least leave a farewell post so, for them I am doing this. This is the last post I will make before deleting this entire site so I might as well say everything I want to say without regret.
When I first started SoshiDreams.com a few months ago, I knew absolutely nothing about SNSD or SONEs. All I knew was that I loved SNSD and wanted to do something special as a fan to show my appreciation for them. Some SONEs warned me that being a casual SONE and starting a SNSD site were two very different beasts but I laughed it off, calling them paranoid. I was absolute in my trust and confidence that all SONEs would love and support SoshiDreams.com, a site whose only purpose was to make the dreams of SONEs come true. I remember I told people there was no possible way for SONEs to be malicious to a site that existed only to bring them happiness but… I found out very quickly how truly wrong I was.
About a month into the new site, we began getting dozens then hundreds of emails a week from SONEs and ANTIs alike complaining about the site. Some common comments were “Why do you give out so few prizes” or “Why are your contests so impossible to win?” We also got things like “Are your contests even real or is this site a scam?” and “SoshiDreams is clearly Yoona and Taeyeon bias, how can you even call yourself a SONE?” As a new SONE and first time site owner, these words were really hurtful to hear. The comments from ANTIs weren’t bad but the accusations from fellow SONEs really stung. My staff and I worked so hard to bring them fun contests and free prizes and yet they demanded more or accused us of being deceitful. Although this was very hurtful to us, we banded even tighter together and vowed to work harder to win those SONEs over.
The first few months were very difficult but I tried my best to smile through it and focus on all the SONEs that supported our efforts. Eventually the ANTIs and hostile SONEs seemed to get bored and things settled down which was a great relief to me. We gave away our first big prize bundle this month and were excitedly gearing up to give away an iPad but, this is when crap really hit the fan. Late one night, our site got flooded with posts by ANTIs and hostile SONEs and my staff actually had to shut down entire portions of the site to freeze and delete the messages. It took a few frantic hours but we eventually managed to remove all the spam but, in the process, we became so so demoralized. In deleting posts, many of us read a lot of the cruel words and were just so discouraged. A lot of the comments were very violent involving threats and promises to turn our real lives upside down by hacking our personal social site accounts, hurting our loved ones etc. Although we eventually realized these threats were mostly empty, the shock and fear was real and many of us were thinking whether running SoshiDreams.com was even worth all this pain and anguish.
Suffice to say I was really struggling this week, trying to hold my scared staff together and keep working on the new site. The final straw came earlier today when a SONE posted this on my personal Formspring:
“Why do you pay your staff? Shouldn’t SONEs want to help because they want to? I feel what you are doing even if it’s ‘non-profit is wrong on so many levels. Don’t take this as a hate post & go cry, it’s an honest opinion about your whole site. Also try to look back on Soshi’s history, I feel like you’re only a fan so that you can show off what you have or can buy. I know a lot more loyal fans than you that don’t own anything SNSD related. Your definition of being a Fan is messed up.”
I cannot even begin to tell you how angry I was after reading this comment. My hands were shaking so hard I almost punched right through my monitor I was so disgusted at the ignorant and vicious attack on my staff. To be honest, I was not angry at the SONE that posted that specific comment, it was more that all the pent up anger, disappointment, sadness and frustration from months and months just burst out of me and I just said that’s it, I’m done. I called an emergency staff meeting on Skype, my entire staff and I read that post together and decided unanimously that SoshiDreams was no longer something any of us wanted to do. That was simply the last straw, we could not take any more.
Anyway, I’ve written enough so, hopefully this post helps explain the ’sudden’ closure of the site. If I can ask one thing of all SONEs, please do not blame anybody for our departure. If you are hurt, angry or sad, blame me as the decision was entirely mine. I feel like I owe so many people an apology but I have no words… I’m just so so tired and want to rest. To all the SONEs that supported us from day 1, you were our light, inspiration and motivation. No matter how tired or frustrated we were, we always gained strength from your kind comments and emails so thank you so so much. All the hard work, sweat and tears, we sincerely did it all for you. To all the ANTIs and SONEs that spent so much time and effort to make us feel like terrible people, you win. Are you happy? I hope you are because you managed to take 12 incredible SONEs and completely destroy their love for this amazing hobby. Lastly to my amazing team, I will speak to you each individually on Skype but, you are the most amazing group of SONEs and people I have ever met. Thank you for letting me lean on you when I needed to… I am so sorry to each of you for not having the strength to be a better leader. Ignore the stupid and ignorant comments about being paid SoshiDreams staff. We all know how the site worked and just why you got paid, you don’t need to explain or justify your love for SNSD to anyone. I love you guys all so much, talk to you soon. <3
Last thought before I post this entry… a SONE asked me on my Formspring once “What is the purpose of SoshiDreams?” To be honest, I had no idea how to respond so I just said something stupid and laughed it off. After everything my staff and I have gone through this month, I think I now have an appropriate answer. Contrary to popular opinion, SoshiDreams wasn’t about me showing off, spending money etc. I am so disgusted that SONEs out there think that I am some materialistic elitist that thinks to be a SONE you have to buy things. SoshiDreams was about dreams and happiness, not ‘things.’ If you didn’t know, I don’t actually give a shit about posters, star cards, folders etc. If you read the post we made about Natalie, THAT is what SoshiDreams is about. Although we say SoshiDreams is a SNSD retail site, it was much much deeper than a site that simply gave out free stuff. We helped hundreds and hundreds of SONEs find happiness, even if it was brief and fleeting. Is that true happiness? Who knows but it brought happiness to many people that really needed it and for God’s sake, to criticize a site that did something so pure and kind is absolutely ridiculous. To any SONE, ANTI or person that criticized or bashed SoshiDreams, I assure you that although my team was paid a tiny amount of money, they did more good things in a week than most do in a year. We used SNSD merchandise simply as a tool to connect with people around the world and bring them a small amount of happiness. Even as I shut this site down, I have no friggin clue how any human being could find fault with that amazingly selfless dream.
Anyway, that’s it, I’m done. I’ve shut down my Formspring and will soon shut down my Twitter and Gmail accounts. One final time, thanks to all the SONEs that supported us as we tried to create something truly special for SONEs. I am so sorry I was not strong enough to see it through, sorry. *bows*

There's no stopping people from thinking what they want personally. 但你觉得狗仔会买我的帐吗?”The site was once a simple, up-to-date, informative haven for the likes of fans. They even do charity work and are praised by many. To all anti-fans who even minutely cause the close down of this site, fear retribution.

Unburnt Hair Doesn't Apply
In the "Sayings of Han
Fei Zi - The Severe Code of
Legalist", was this story:
One day, Duke Wen of
Jin found hairs on his roast meat. He summoned the cook for questioning.
"How dare you put hairs in my roast meat! Are you trying to choke me?"
The cook replied, "I am guilty of three capital crimes, Your Majesty. First, I kept my knife as sharp as the
legendary sword but only managed to sever the meat but not the hair. Second, I skewered the meat and roasted it on the fire but failed to see the hairs. Thirdly, I kept the fire strong enough to roast the meat but was not able to burn the hairs."
He paused then continues, "... But, is there someone in the kitchen who hates me?"
Duke Wen thought about it and called in the kitchen hand for interrogation. He was found to be the culprit and later executed.
The moral of the story: It pays to probe tell-tale signs in a crime. He who benefits from a crime is the greatest suspect.
Why then did I say that this theory doesn't apply? Or should I say it no longer applies? The fact is, be it in work place or in real crimes some people still gets away with this. We always say learn from the past.
Are we really learning though?

99 Seconds; Red Man
Crazy day, another day spent on the road. Or I should say wasted? The traffic in Melaka was horrible. It took another 3 hours to get from entering Melaka to my aunt's place. Note to self, try not to go there when it's public holiday. I mean, had no one ever thought that 99 seconds traffic red light an inefficient prop? Small road also 99 seconds, big road also 99 seconds, got car also 99 seconds, no car also 99 seconds. Small road turn big road or big road turn small road also 99 seconds... *sweat-dropped* This should be the govornment's priority for the developement in Melaka instead of land reclaimation. I mean we managed with such small piece of land and our traffic is not that bad... What's the use of all that land if you spoil the tourists appetite by giving them a lousy road experience? Learn automatic traffic controls, man...

Color Genics, seems a good way for boss to test us out? I hope not.
At this particular time, you are feeling that you are or were unjustly and undeservedly treated and/or betrayed in your hopes and dreams. You feel that everything is against you. But look on the bright side for you are, whether you believe it or not, a survivor.
You are working extremely hard - perhaps even above and beyond the call of duty. You are preparing for the future and therefore trying to build a firm trouble-free foundation upon which you may base all of your dreams and aspirations.
You know what you want and you are very dogmatic and demanding - especially in your emotional demands. You have specific ideas and beliefs and if these beliefs are not realised you can become extremely frustrated. You may not be that perfect but you are looking for perfection with the perfect partner.
Presently, you are trying to break away from a situation that is causing you considerable worry and concern. Things are getting on top of you and you are feeling depressed almost to breaking point. Obviously there must be a way out - but at this time the solution seems to be escaping you. You want to 'get away from it all' and as a consequence you appear to be sullen and introverted and refuse to get involved in any discussion or arguments which could aggravate the situation. Accept the fact that 'as you feel - so your body will respond' and 'pretend' to the world about you that everything is going beautifully as, if you act as if 'all is going well' everything will, whether you believe it or not, work out as you would like it to.
You don't really give in. You follow your beliefs and ideals to the bitter end. You are the personification of stubbornness and whatever may transpire, right or wrong, you refuse to compromise or make concessions.
It's the time of year that you are apt to become extremely restless and emotionally withdrawn. This is preventing you from becoming deeply involved with a person or persons within your sphere of influence. If you are willing to 'let go' and release your inhibitions you will find that a great deal of physical satisfaction will result, far more than perhaps you even believed you were capable of.
You are experiencing extreme frustration at this point of time, trying to achieve security and peace of mind, but whatever you seem to do doesn't effect the situation. You are worn out and your energy is being seriously depleted. You may be experiencing what is known as 'heartache' - both mentally and physically. You are a listener and you listen and respond to everything that is going on around you. You feel that all that life has to offer should be within your grasp and you would like to participate in every part of it but the situation is such that every door seems to be closed to you. You just can't understand why that is. But it is - and what's more you feel powerless to change it.
You feel worn out - you have no energy and your depleted vitality has created intolerance for any further stimulation. You feel inadequate and this subjects you to agitation, irritation and acute distress from which you try to escape by refusing further direct participation. You have become very wary and cautious but you have an inner strength. You have that determination to get your own way and succeed in the end.
-- This is making me feel depressed all over again. Assignment 1, when can I finish you? --

A Rose by Any Other Will Smell As Sweet

This shit is fucking lame. Funny as hell though. I was deeply entertained.

Like quite accurate? Then again, is it really?
Side Note: Congratulations to Aishah and Fadli~ Have a Blessed Marriage~

Legs
I saw a set of really nice legs today. Not too thin and with gap between, and all was fine until she walked. *Sigh* No one is perfect indeed. Like there are a million things I could think of that I want to change about myself but still, I am not lenient with others. Sharing similar experience with other people only make it worst. Why can't I just sleep it off?
